Pioneer Football League kicks off 20th season

The Pioneer Football League begins its 20th season Saturday with a full slate of games.

Dayton has won a PFL-best 11 titles, including six outright championships. The Flyers host Jacksonvile in a series which is tied, 3-3. In every meeting, the home team has come away with the victory.

Last year's Pioneer Football League co-champs, San Diego and Drake, were predicted to finish first and second, respectively by the league's coaches in the preseason.

Starting in 2013, the PFL champion will be eligible for an automatic bid to the FCS playoffs. The playoffs will expand from 20 to 24 teams next year.

The schedule for this week's league games (kickoffs ET):

Marist (1-2) vs. Davidson (0-2), noon

Campbell (1-2) at Butler (1-2), noon

Jacksonville (2-1) at Dayton (1-2), 1 p.m.

Drake (1-2) vs. Morehead State (1-2), 2 p.m.

Valparaiso (0-3) at San Diego (1-2), 4 p.m.
