Kalif Phillips scored three touchdowns in a game for the fourth time this season, rushed for 189 yards as Charlotte finished its second season with a 52-14 defeat of Morehead State on Saturday.

Charlotte (5-6) joins the FBS Conference USA next fall. The 49ers shot out to a 24-0 first-quarter lead against Morehead State (4-8) with Phillips scoring twice in the period on runs of 59 and 37 yards. The sophomore notched his fifth straight game with 150 yards rushing or better and finished with a school-record 20 touchdowns in a season.

Morehead State's Austin Gahafer was harried into three interceptions against two TDs. He threw scoring passes to Brandon Bornhauser and Jake Raymond after the score was 45-0.

Charlotte's Damarrell Alexander rushed for 107 yards and two TDs as the 49ers racked up 300 yards on the ground.
