Denver, CO – The Philadelphia Phillies put Raul Valdes on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a right hip strain and recalled fellow left- handed pitcher Joe Savery from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
The 34-year-old Valdes is 2-2 with a 3.80 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 21 1/3 innings this season. His move to the DL is retroactive to July 9.
Savery, 26, is 0-2 with a 5.87 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched for the Phillies this year.
The Phillies are opening the second half against the Rockies.
