Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard ending playoff loss to St. Louis.
With two away in the bottom of the ninth and Philadelphia trailing, 1-0, Howard grounded a ball toward second base. He planted his left foot as he broke out of the box and quickly stumbled, eventually falling to the ground halfway up the line.
He said after the game he "felt this pop."
"The whole thing just went numb and was on fire," Howard said. "I tried to keep going and went down. Literally felt like I was on a flat tire."
The Cardinals easily threw out Howard, who lay on the ground, grabbing his left leg. The out ended Game 5 of the teams' National League Division Series, sending St. Louis to the next round.
Howard is scheduled to have an MRI exam Saturday.
