Pittsburgh, PA – The Pittsburgh Penguins re-signed defenseman Matt Niskanen to a two-year contract on Saturday.
The deal has an average annual value of $2.3 million.
The 25-year-old Niskanen tallied four goals and 17 assists in 75 games with the Penguins last season. He added one goal and two assists in four playoff contests.
Originally drafted by the Dallas Stars in the first round of the 2005 draft, Niskanen has 21 goals and 86 assists in 370 career games with the Stars and Penguins. The Virginia, Minnesota native also has one goal and six assists in 27 playoff contests.
The Penguins also re-signed goaltender Brad Thiessen to a one-year contract. He posted a 3-1 record in five games for Pittsburgh last season.
