PITTSBURGH – Sean Patterson threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Sean Bunevich with 21 seconds left to give Duquesne a 35-31 victory over Dayton on Saturday.
Patterson completed 27 of 40 passes for 326 and three touchdowns as the Dukes (2-0) held on to defeat Dayton.
Despite jumping out to a 21-7 lead in the second quarter, the Flyers (1-1) faltered down the stretch as Patterson led Duquesne on two touchdown drives just before halftime including a game-tying 13-yard touchdown pass to wideout Connor Dixon as time expired.
Dayton reclaimed the lead in the third quarter after 27-yard field goal from Nick Glavin, but a 4-yard touchdown run by Duquesne running back Larry McCoy gave the Dukes a 28-24 advantage.
McCoy rushed for a game-high 84 yards and two touchdowns.
