The New England Patriots have reportedly given year contract extension.

According to the Boston Globe, Ninkovich inked the deal earlier this week and received a $2 million signing bonus.

Ninkovich is in his third season with the Patriots after also spending time with New Orleans and Miami. He had one tackle in Monday's season-opening win against the Dolphins.

"Rob's done a good job for us," said Patriots head coach Bill Belichick during his Friday morning press briefing. "He's done a lot of different things, kicking game, defensively, running game, passing game, pass rush. He's had some interceptions, had some quarterback pressures. He's a smart guy, works hard and has good versatility."

Ninkovich started 10 of the 16 games he played last season, compiling 62 tackles with four sacks, three fumble recoveries and two interceptions.
