PARIS (AP) — Tony Parker says he won't play at the world championship for France this summer and will instead stay with the San Antonio Spurs.

The 27-year-old point guard says on website Thursday that the Spurs made it clear he should "only focus on the club."

Parker says his decision is "irrevocable," adding that his NBA season had been hampered by injuries and that the Spurs don't want to see him so beaten up again.

The Frenchman has one year left on his contract with the NBA team.

The world championship is Aug. 28-Sept. 12 in Turkey.
