Sunrise, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Florida Panthers have acquired veteran forward Jaromir Jagr from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a pair of draft picks.
The Panthers are postseason contenders, entering play Thursday two points behind the Boston Bruins for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, and hope the future Hall of Famer can help them reach the playoffs for only the second time since 2000.
Jagr had 11 goals and 18 assists in 57 games this season for the Devils, who received a second-round draft pick in 2015 and a conditional third-round draft pick in 2016 from the Panthers.
The 43-year-old native of the Czech Republic ranks fifth all-time in league history with 1,784 points and sixth with 716 goals.
A two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the early 1990s, the former Hart Trophy winner has also played for the Washington Capitals, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins during his 21-year NHL career.
