Greer, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Rod Pampling fired his second straight 63 on Friday and extended his lead to four strokes after two rounds of the BMW Charity Pro-Am.
Pampling finished 36 holes at 18-under-par 126. He matched the course record at Green Valley Country Club.
The Australian also broke the tournament's 36-hole scoring record with his total of 126. Travis Hampshire and Greg Owen set the old mark of 128 in 2011 and Franklin Corpening matched that total in 2013.
Jason Allred also played at Green Valley and he posted his second straight 65. Allred is alone in second place at 14-under-par 130.
Green Valley and The Reserve at Lake Keowee, both par-72s, are used for the first three days along with the par-71 Thornblade Club, where the final round will be played.
Kelly Kraft fired a 9-under 63 at Green Valley to jump into third place at minus-13. Seamus Power (65), Bronson La'Cassie (66) and Patton Kizzire (65) all played The Reserve on Friday.
They are tied for fourth place at minus-11 with Rob Oppenheim (64 at Green Valley) and Si Woo Kim (67 at Thornblade Club).
Pampling got off to a quick start as he birdied the first and second. After a pair of pars, he birdied the fifth and seventh to move to 13-under.
The two-time PGA Tour winner converted a birdie effort at the ninth and made it two in a row as he also birdied the 10th.
After dropping his first shot of the week on No. 12, Pampling came right back with a birdie on the par-5 13th. He birdied each of the next three holes as well to soar to minus-18. Pampling parred the final two holes to end there.
"It's nice to see balls going in the hole. In this game, we see a lot of bad stuff, so when it's coming around, you just enjoy the walk and don't get in your own way. It's certainly a more relaxing atmosphere having (amateur) playing partners," Pampling said.
Allred, who teed off five groups ahead of Pampling, opened with five consecutive pars. He jumped to 9-under with back-to-back birdies at six and seven.
After a par on the eighth, Allred ran off three straight birdies from the ninth to move to minus-12. He parred four in a row from the 12th before birdies at 16 and 18 got Allred within four of Pampling's lead.
"I love this golf tournament. And I'm aware of what's going on, but I'm going to try and use it as a cue to be great at what I can control," Allred said. "For me, that's having fun first and foremost, and playing the percentages."
NOTES: Pampling's 18-under score is one off the tour record set by Kevin Chappell and Webb Simpson ... James Nitties fired a 7-under 65 at The Reserve, and was aided by an albatross on the par-5 11th.
