Painter to start for Colts

The Indianapolis Colts will start Curtis Painter at quarterback for Monday night's contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Painter will make his first career start and replaces Kerry Collins, who left last Sunday's contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers because of concussion- like symptoms.

Collins, signed into a starting role in late August when it was revealed Peyton Manning had not been fully recovered from offseason neck surgery, took several big hits and was clearly dazed on the sideline.

Painter, who had attempted just 28 career passes coming in, relieved Collins on the Colts' first possession of the fourth quarter.

He completed 5-of-11 pass attempts for 60 yards. Painter led a game-tying, 80- yard drive with 2:09 left in the fourth before the Colts eventually lost, 23-20, on a Shaun Suisham 38-yard field goal.
