San Diego, CA – The San Diego Padres reinstated shortstop Everth Cabrera from the restricted list after he completed a 50-game suspension for his connection to the Biogenesis clinic accused of supplying performance-enhancing drugs.
Cabrera was among 12 players hit with the 50-game penalty on Aug. 6. He also spent time on the disabled list earlier this season with a hamstring issue.
The 26-year-old was an All-Star for the first time this season. He appeared in 95 games this year and batted .283 with four homers and 31 runs batted in. His 37 stolen bases led the National League at the time of his ban.
San Diego opened a spot on the 40-man roster by designating catcher Chris Robinson for assignment. The 29-year-old veteran was a September call-up and went 2-for-12 with a three-run homer in eight games.
