San Diego Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner left Tuesday's game against Arizona before the bottom of the third inning with a a strained right lat muscle.
Cashner showed discomfort on his final warm-up pitch and was removed from the game in favor of Ross Ohlendorf.
The 25-year-old right-hander made his third start of the season and fourth of his career, after pitching primarily out of the bullpen.
This season, Cashner is 3-3 with a 3.44 earned run average in 36 2/3 innings and has 45 strikeouts. As a starter, Cashner has allowed three runs on five hits in 10 2/3 innings.
