Double amputee runner Oscar Pistorius has been added to South Africa's 4x400-meter relay team for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Pistorius, who will also be allowed to run the men's 400-meter race, will become the first man ever to compete in both Summer and Paralympic games.

"Today is truly one of the proudest days of my life," Pistorious said in a statement. "To have been selected to represent Team South Africa at the London 2012 Olympic Games in the individual 400m and the 4x400m relay is a real honor and I am so pleased that years of hard work, determination and sacrifice have all come together."

The 25-year-old will join Willem de Beer, Ofentse Mogawane and Shaun de Jager for the relay.
