Orioles hire Duquette as new general manager

(Reuters) - The Baltimore Orioles will introduce Dan Duquette on Tuesday as the team's executive vice president of baseball operations, the team said on Monday.

Duquette, 53, the general manager of the Boston Red Sox from 1994 through 2002, replaces Andy MacPhail as the Orioles' top baseball executive.

The Orioles, who finished last in the American League East with a 69-93 record in 2011, have not have a winning season since 1997.

Duquette had been running a baseball academy in Massachusetts since leaving the Red Sox.
