Oregon State coach Pat Casey suspended ace Ben Wetzler five games and ordered him to perform community service for a window-breaking incident in Corvallis, Oregon, last weekend.
Casey said in a statement Friday that Wetzler's suspension began last Saturday. That makes Wetzler available to pitch this Sunday in the third game of a key Pac-12 home series against Washington. The Beavers are No. 1 or 2 in the major national polls.
Wetzler faces two misdemeanor charges for breaking the window of a home hours after he pitched eight innings in a win last Friday over UCLA. Corvallis police said Wetzler was intoxicated when he was booked on first-degree criminal trespass and second-degree criminal mischief.
Wetzler said in a statement that he's remorseful and plans to apologize to the owners of the house.
