Notre Dame will count on cornerback Cody Riggs more than expected after transferring from Florida.
Riggs will cover opponents' top receivers with KeiVarae Russell out indefinitely while the school investigates possible academic dishonesty. Kelly says Riggs is clearly Notre Dame's best corner and praises him for being a leader.
Riggs says it hasn't been a hard transition, noting the aggressive style under new defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder is similar to his past play.
Riggs admits it will feel different Saturday putting on the Irish uniform for the game against Rice in the season opener, but says he won't feel completely out of place. He remembers attending games at Notre Dame in 1997 when his uncle, Bobby Brown, was an Irish receiver.
