Wichita, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Fred VanVleet had 21 points and nine assists as No. 9 Wichita State routed Tulsa 75-55 on Saturday afternoon.
Ron Baker netted 19 points and Darius Carter added 14 for the Shockers (4-0), who led by as many as 23.
"I thought a couple of our veterans played beautiful basketball," Shockers coach Gregg Marshall said.
James Woodard posted 19 points to lead Tulsa (3-3).
"They (Shockers) played with great toughness and I thought that was the difference of the game," Tulsa coach Frank Haith said.
Marquel Curtis' 3-pointer staked Tulsa to a 16-15 edge just over five minutes in, but the Shockers responded with a 13-2 run to create some distance.
Baker, Tekele Cotton and Ria'n Holland all nailed triples during the surge, which was capped on a Carter jumper for a 28-18 Wichita State cushion with 7:20 left in the opening half.
Van Vleet netted the final eight points during an 11-0 swing to close the stanza, including a layup to cap it and give the Shockers a 40-22 advantage heading into the break.
Wichita State cruised to the easy win in the second half.

Wichita State shot 46.3 percent (25-of-54) from the floor and was 12-of-26 from beyond the arc ... The Shockers outrebounded the Golden Hurricane by a 39-27 margin.
