San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Winston Shepard finished with 15 points and five assists to lift No. 19 San Diego State to a 70-57 victory over Ball State on Saturday.
JJ O'Brien scored 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting and added six rebounds and three assists, while Skylar Spencer had 10 points and six boards for the Aztecs (8-3), who bounced back from a 71-62 double-overtime loss to Cincinnati on Wednesday.
"I'm happy with a lot of things we did offensively," San Diego State head coach Steve Fisher said. "When you play that well, it lends itself to a few more open looks.'
Jeremie Tyler netted a game-high 17 points and Matt Kamieniecki supplied 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinals (3-6), who dropped their third straight game.
"I felt like we really competed and I told the guys in the locker room that I think we have everything we need this year," said Ball State head coach James Whitford.
Shepard scored six points during a 14-2 San Diego State run as his jumper made it a 22-12 game with 8:39 to play in the first half.
The Aztecs maintained their 10-point edge as they took a 36-26 lead into halftime.
Tyler drained a 3-pointer to cut into deficit to make it a 38-31 game less than two minutes into the second half.
Shepard hit back-to-back jumpers and Kevin Zabo split a pair of free throws to give the Aztecs a 60-43 advantage with 7:13 to play.
San Diego State led by at least 11 points the rest of the way.

San Diego State has gone 95-8 at home since 2008-09 and is 6-0 at Viejas Arena this season ... The Aztecs have held all six of their opponents to under 60 points at home this season ... San Diego State shot 23-for-52 from the floor (44.2 percent), while Ball State was 19-for-46 (41.3 percent).
