Austin Dillon, rapidly establishing himself as one of the stars of the Nationwide Series, put another notch in his belt Friday afternoon by winning the pole position for Friday night’s Subway Jalapeno 250 race at Daytona International Speedway.
Dillon turned in a fast lap of 177.340 miles per hour to earn the first starting spot for the evening race.
Dillon edged Ricky Stenhouse Jr., the last driver on the grid. Stenhouse ran 177.253.
Completing the top five were Cole Whitt, Danica Patrick and Kevin Harvick.
In the second five were Kurt Busch, Brad Keselowski, Mike Wallace, Joey Logano and Brian Scott.
The 100-lap race is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. (ET) start.
