WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Washington Nationals placed catcher Ivan Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back strain, the team said on Monday.
The move is retroactive to Sunday, the Nationals said in a statement.
Rodriguez appeared to hurt himself when he swung and missed a pitch during Saturday's game against Baltimore. The 14-times All-Star finished the at-bat but did not return to the game and missed Sunday's game,
The 38-year-old veteran catcher, who signed a two-year contract with the Nationals in December, is hitting .325 this season with 16 RBIs.
