Philadelphia, PA – Anchored by six scoreless innings from Buck Farmer the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets were able to continue on in the Nashville Regional with a 5-1 victory over the Eastern Tennessee State Buccaneers.
Farmer allowed just two hits and struck out eight batters to earn the win while Sam Dove (2-for-4), Brandon Thomas (2-for-4) and Mott Hyde (2-for-5) all had multi-hit games for Georgia Tech (35-26).
ETSU (36-24) had just three hits on the day and starter Kerry Doane allowed all five runs on 10 hits over seven innings to take the loss which eliminated the Buccaneers from the tournament.
In the nightcap of the second day the Vanderbilt Commodores used a five-run eighth inning to pull away for a 10-4 win over the Illinois Fighting Illini.
Tony Kemp went 4-for-6 with three runs scored, Xavier Turner was 3-for-6 with a pair of RBI and Mike Yastrzemski went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI for Vanderbilt (53-9). Carson Fulmer pitched five scoreless innings to pick up the win.
John Kravetz was tagged for five runs on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings as he took the loss for Illinois (35-19). Brandon Hohl was 2-for-4 with a RBI in the losing effort.
Vanderbilt's win gave it the first spot in Sunday's regional final. Illinois will have to take on Georgia Tech in an elimination game earlier in the day for the other spot. Illinois beat Georgia Tech, 6-4, on Friday.
