Red Bull New York will put its seven-match unbeaten run to the test on Saturday when the club welcomes Vancouver Whitecaps FC to Red Bull Arena.
The Red Bulls are one of the most in-form teams in MLS at the moment, taking 17 points out of a possible 21 to enter the weekend atop the Eastern Conference on 25 points.
Their unbeaten streak appeared to be in serious jeopardy on Sunday when the Columbus Crew took a one-goal lead into the dying minutes of their clash at Red Bull Arena, but Jamison Olave netted a late equalizer in a 2-2 draw that preserved New York's impressive run.
Not only did Olave's strike help the Red Bulls maintain their form, but it landed the towering defender on the league's Team of the Week.
While the Red Bulls were beneficiaries of a late equalizer last time out, the Whitecaps were denied a victory by a tying goal in their last outing.
Vancouver is coming off of a 2-2 draw against the Portland Timbers, a result that surely feels sour given the manner in which the club surrendered two points.
Camilo Sanvezzo and Gershon Koffie produced goals for the 'Caps with Portland's Will Johnson scoring in between, but it was Jose Valencia's strike in the 84th minute that saw the two sides split the points.
Vancouver enters the weekend on short rest as the club played to a 2-2 draw with the Montreal Impact in Wednesday's Canadian Championship tie at BC Place. After a 1-1 opening leg in Montreal, Wednesday's draw ousted the 'Caps from the competition due to away goals, leaving them to lick their wounds as they venture east to face the Red Bulls.
Saturday's tilt is the final match of a three-game homestand for New York and the first in a two-match road trip for Vancouver.
The two sides have faced one another three times since the 'Caps entered the league as an expansion club in 2011. They have played to a draw on all three occasions.
