London, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Wimbledon champion Andy Murray pulled out of the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals on Wednesday after having back surgery last month.
"I'm really disappointed not to be playing this year," said Murray. "I love playing in front of my home crowd, it's a great atmosphere. All the players look forward to competing in London and I'll be doing my best to qualify again for the tournament next year."
The Tour Finals event will be held Nov. 4-11 at London's O2 Arena.
In addition to becoming Britain's first male Wimbledon singles champion in 77 years this year, the world No. 3 Murray also reached the Australian Open final and captured the prestigious Masters event in Miami.
