London, England – Camille Muffat of France won the women's 400-meter freestyle with an Olympic record Sunday night.
Allison Schmitt got the silver with an American record and Great Britain's Rebecca Adlington was third.
Muffat's time of 4 minutes, 1.45 seconds bettered the old Olympic record of 4:02.19 set by Federica Pellegrini of Italy at the Beijing Games in 2008.
Schmitt won a bronze medal with the 800 free relay team at Beijing four years ago.
