WINNIPEG - Keith McCambridge has been promoted to head coach of the Winnipeg Jets' new AHL affiliate in St. John's, N.L.

The team operated as the Manitoba Moose last season under Claude Noel. But with the Jets now calling Winnipeg home and Noel behind the Jets bench, the 37-year-old McCambridge takes over the farm team.

McCambridge, a native of Thompson, Man., served as an assistant coach with the Moose the last two seasons.

Prior to joining the Moose, McCambridge spent six seasons with the East Coast Hockey League's Alaska Aces — first as a player-assistant coach and then head coach.

As player, McCambridge has an 11-year career as a defenceman with eight different teams in the AHL, IHL, and ECHL.

A junior with the Swift Current Broncos and Kamloops Blazers, he was originally drafted by the Calgary Flames in the eighth round of the 1994 NHL entry draft.
