Montreal adds Canada international Bernier
Montreal, QC – The Montreal Impact announced on Monday that the club has signed midfielder Patrice Bernier, who is a native of Quebec.
Bernier was a member of the Impact from 2000-02 before moving on to play nine seasons in Europe for Moss F.K and Tromso in Norway, Kaiserslautern in Germany, as well as Nordsjaelland and Lyngby in Denmark.
"We have been in talks with Patrice for quite some time and we are extremely pleased that he will be joining the Impact for the 2012 season," said Impact head coach Jesse Marsch. "His years of experience in top leagues in Europe will provide the team with savvy and intelligence. As a player, he is very sharp on the ball and his tactical awareness will be a great value in the midfield. As a person, he is a good man and a strong leader. Patrice is very excited and ready for the challenge of helping our club reach the next level."
The 32-year-old Bernier has been capped 47 times by Canada while he appeared in 73 games in his first stint in Montreal in the North American second division, tallying five goals and 12 assists.
