Major League Soccer announced Thursday that the MLS All-Stars will face Italian giants AS Roma in the 2013 All-Star Game. The match will be played Wednesday, July 31 at Sporting Park, home to Sporting Kansas City.
The match will mark the 10th time that the MLS All-Stars will face a top international club - the All-Stars boast a 6-2-1 record in this format.
Past opponents have included Manchester United (2010 & 2011), Everton (2009), Chelsea (2006 & 2012), Fulham (2005), and Chivas de Guadalajara (2003), making Roma the first Serie A side to compete in the All-Star Game.
"We are pleased to welcome AS Roma as the opponent for the MLS All-Stars in the 2013 All-Star Game in Kansas City," said MLS Commissioner Don Garber. "As the winner of multiple Serie A and Coppa Italia titles, Roma is one of Italy's most popular and successful clubs.
"We are also proud to welcome back Roma midfielder Michael Bradley. Michael began his professional career in MLS as a 16-year-old and has become one of the most successful American players of this era."
Roma finished the Serie A season in sixth place with 62 points. The Giallorossi also reached the Coppa Italia final but faltered in a 1-0 defeat to bitter rivals Lazio on Sunday.
