Minnesota's Moore honored as top WNBA rookie
New York, NY – Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore has been selected as the WNBA's Rookie of the Year.
The former University of Connecticut star was a near unanimous pick, earning 38 of a possible 40 votes from a nationwide panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. San Antonio's Danielle Adams received the other two votes.
Moore became the fourth straight top overall draft pick to earn the top rookie honor, following Tina Charles, Angel McCoughtry and Candace Parker. She is the third Minnesota rookie to win the award, joining Betty Lennox in 2000 and Seimone Augustus in 2006.
The two-time NCAA champion topped all rookies in scoring, averaging 13.2 points, and was second overall in rebounding at 4.6 per game and was third in assists at 2.7 per outing. She was selected as a Western Conference All-Star starter earlier this season, becoming the first rookie to be voted into the lineup since Sue Bird and Tamika Catchings in 2002.
