Flushing, NY – The New York Mets placed starting shortstop Ruben Tejada on the 15-day disabled list Thursday due to a right quad strain.
Tejada suffered the injury while sliding in an attempt to catch a foul ball in the ninth inning of Wednesday's win against the Yankees in the Bronx. He briefly remained in the game before being lifted with one out remaining.
In 50 games this season, Tejada was hitting just .209 with 10 RBI.
The Mets selected the contract of infielder Omar Quintanilla from Triple-A Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League to take Tejada's roster spot. Quintanilla, who played 29 games with the Mets last year before a July trade to Baltimore, was hitting .333 with two homers, 18 RBI and 26 runs scored with Las Vegas.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Mets transferred pitcher Frank Francisco to the 60-day disabled list.
