Getafe, Spain – Barcelona won for the fourth time in as many games in La Liga on Saturday as Lionel Messi came off the bench to score twice in the last 20 minutes of a 4-1 Barca win at Getafe.
Messi spent nearly the first 60 minutes on the bench after returning from international duty with Argentina, and he entered the contest with Barca nursing a 1-0 lead courtesy of a first-half goal from Adriano.
It took Messi 15 minutes to double Barca's lead as Pedro Rodriguez was brought down inside the penalty area by Getafe's Juan Valera, allowing Messi to convert the spot kick.
Messi added to his tally four minutes later when he scored from close range after a deflected cross, while Getafe found its way onto the scoreboard 10 minutes from time when a shot from Sarabia deflected off of Barca's Javier Mascherano and found its way into the net.
But Barca added one more goal to cap its win as Cesc Fabregas chipped a ball over the top that allowed David Villa to bring it down and fire home his second league goal of the season.
Sevilla 1, Real Madrid 0
Seville, Spain - Real Madrid fell eight points back of Barcelona after just four games as the club suffered its second league defeat of the season, dropping a 1-0 contest at Sevilla.
The only goal of the game arrived inside of two minutes when a corner kick from Ivan Rakitic was played into the middle of the penalty area, where Piotr Trochowski hammered the ball past goalkeeper Iker Casillas with a first-time half volley.
Madrid was left to chase that goal over the final 88 minutes, and should have leveled the contest on the hour mark when Sergio Ramos got free inside the six-yard box but headed Karim Benzema's cross off the crossbar.
Jose Mourinho's team has now scored one goal or less in three of its first four games, while Sevilla sits in third place with an unbeaten record through four matches.
Malaga 3, Levante 1
Malaga, Spain - Malaga's unbeaten league start continued on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Levante at the Estadio La Rosaleda.
Javier Saviola scored his first goal of the campaign for the home side midway through the first half after a nice through ball from Isco, while Levante responded in the opening minute of the second half to level the match through Michel.
Malaga restored its advantage just before the hour mark when Saviola's pass opened up space for Joaquin to fire a shot past goalkeeper Gustavo Munua.
Sergio Sanchez received a second yellow card for Malaga, reducing the hosts to 10 men for the final few minutes, but Francisco Portillo still managed to add to the lead deep into stoppage time with a volley.
Valencia 2, Celta Vigo 1
Valencia, Spain - Aly Cissokho's goal early in the second half helped Valencia claim its first win of the season, 2-1, against a Celta Vigo side that has lost three of its first four La Liga matches.
Sofiane Feghouli scored just four minutes into the match for Valencia, which managed to claim only two points from its first three games.
But Celta Vigo answered back in the 16th through Michael Krohn-Dehli, who finished off a pass from Augusto Fernandez at close range.
The difference came five minutes after halftime as Cissokho got on the other end of Dani Parejo's cross to head home the winner.
