Merriman ends hold out, re-signs with Chargers

SAN DIEGO (Reuters) - Linebacker Shawne Merriman ended his hold out on Friday and agreed to accept a $3.2 million tender offer to re-sign with the San Diego Chargers.

Merriman did not participate in pre-season activities or two weeks of training camp due to his dispute with the team.

"There's a point where you have to come in and get ready for the season, and that's what it's about at the end of the day," Merriman told reporters. "The only way to emulate football is to play football, and that's why I'm here."

Merriman, who led the NFL with 39.5 sacks from 2005-07 but has been limited by injuries the past two seasons, is not expected to play in the Chargers' first pre-season game on Saturday against the Chicago Bears.
