Frankfurt, Germany – A pair of second-half goals from Alexander Meier propelled Eintracht to its fifth win in six games on Sunday as the club secured a 2-1 victory over Freiburg.
Eintracht fell behind in the 50th minute when Max Kruse scored from a tight angle on the right side of the penalty area. But Meier leveled the match in the 67th minute when collected Bastian Oczipka's cross and slotted his shot into the bottom corner.
Meier was on target again six minutes later with Oczipka once again playing provider as his corner kick was nodded home by the striker for his fourth goal of the campaign.
Oczipka went close with a free kick a few minutes later, but Eintracht was able to see out the match to remain two points back of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.
Mainz 2, Wolfsburg 0
Wolfsburg, Germany - Mainz won for the second time this season as first-half goals from Junior Diaz and Adam Szalai were enough for a 2-0 road win at Wolfsburg.
Both teams had only one win from their opening five games, but Mainz took charge of the game midway through the first half when a free kick from Andreas Ivanschitz was headed home by Diaz.
Ivanschitz had a hand in the second goal as well, which arrived 11 minutes later on the break.
Szalai dashed into the area and got to the middle of box before finding the lower corner of the goal following a pass from Ivanschitz.
