Johns Creek, GA – Citing an undisclosed injury, Rocco Mediate withdrew from the PGA Championship on Friday.
Mediate, who was scheduled to play at 2:10 p.m. (et), shot a 79 on Thursday.
The 49-year-old famously battled Tiger Woods at the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines. He has long battled a bad back, but it is not known if that was the reason he withdrew.
Mediate has three missed cuts and a withdrawal in his last five PGA Tour starts. His best finish at the PGA Championship was back in 2002, when he took sixth at Hazeltine.
