Cole Mazza ran for 143 yards and three touchdowns to lead Stetson to a 40-34 win over Davidson on Saturday.

Davidson (1-8, 0-5 Pioneer Football League) was without starting quarterback J.P. Douglas, who was suspended last weekend. The Wildcats kicked a field goal with 38 seconds left but could not come up with an on-side kick. Freshman Taylor Mitchell completed 19 of 40 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted three times.

Ryan Powers had the third interception, returning it 33 yards to the Davidson 31 late in the third. Two runs by Mazza to open the fourth quarter pushed the lead to 40-31 for Stetson (3-5, 1-3). Ryan Tentler threw two touchdown passes in the third quarter to help the Hatters erase a 24-20 halftime deficit.

Freshman Jeffrey Keil, who had 268 yards entering the game, had 215 on 33 carries and two scores for Davidson.
