Maryland LB Hartsfield out for season with torn ACL, was injury-riddled Terps' leading tackler
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland middle linebacker Demetrius Hartsfield is out for the season with a torn ACL.
It's the latest in a series of serious injuries for the Terrapins, who have already lost four quarterbacks and starting wide receiver Marcus Leak for the year.
Hartsfield, a senior, leads Maryland with 78 tackles. The injury occurred last Saturday in the second quarter of a 33-13 loss to Georgia Tech.
Coach Randy Edsall says, "This is another tough loss for the program. ... To have his senior year cut short is disheartening."
Hartsfield has 3½ sacks, an interception and two fumble recoveries. His 338 career tackles is ranks 15th in school history.
Maryland (4-5, 2-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) has three games left in the season. The Terrapins play at No. 10 Clemson on Saturday.
