Miami, FL – The Miami Marlins placed third baseman Placido Polanco on the 7-day concussion disabled list Monday, three days after he was struck in the head with a pitch in a game against San Francisco.
Polanco has sat out the Marlins' past two games following his beaning by the Giants' Santiago Casilla in Friday's 14-10 loss. The veteran is batting .253 with one home run and 21 RBI in 91 games this season, his first with Miami.
The Marlins selected the contract of infielder Gil Velazquez from New Orleans prior to Monday's contest against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 23-year-old, who signed a minor league contract with the organization in May, was hitting .275 with 22 RBI and a .375 on-base percentage with the Zephyrs.
To make room for Velazquez on the 40-man roster, Miami transferred injured outfielder Marcell Ozuna from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL.
