Seattle Mariners outfielder Franklin Gutierrez has a partially torn right pectoral muscle that will sideline him for around four weeks.

The Mariners said Wednesday the center fielder suffered the injury on Tuesday while making a throw from the outfield during a fielding drill.

Gutierrez, 29, left the team's spring training site in Arizona to have an MRI in Seattle. The injury does not require surgery and the Mariners expect him to begin baseball activities in approximately four weeks. He will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis after that.

Gutierrez batted .224 with one homer and 19 runs batted in over 92 games last year. He was placed on the disabled list in September, ending his season.
