Mariners designate Harang for assignment
Seattle, WA – The Seattle Mariners designated pitcher Aaron Harang for assignment.
The club made the announcement on Monday, prior to the start of a series with the Texas Rangers, adding that outfielder Franklin Gutierrez was activated from the 15-day disabled list.
Harang took the loss in Seattle's 7-1 loss on Sunday against the Angels, giving up nine hits and seven runs with seven strikeouts and two walks over 5 2/3 innings. That setback pushed his record to 5-11 on the season and his ERA ballooned to 5.76.
Gutierrez was sidelined since June 23 with a recurrence of hamstring issues, participating in just two games after missing two months with the same injury.
The 30-year-old Venezuelan is hitting .267 with five home runs and 11 RBI in just 18 games this season.
