Mariners activate Smoak

The Seattle Mariners have recalled first A Tacoma and day disabled list.

Smoak was hit in the face by a bad-hop grounder in the second inning of the August 13 game against the Boston Red Sox. X-rays revealed a non-displaced fracture of the nose. A CT scan also showed a non-displaced (hairline) fracture of the maxilla bone in his left cheek.

Entering Friday's action, Smoak was batting .220 with 30 runs scored, 23 doubles, 12 home runs and 40 RBI in a career-high 101 games with the Mariners this season.
