Malaga netted three second-half goals to 1 on Monday.
Isco handed Malaga the lead just three minutes after halftime and an own goal from Alvaro extended that advantage in the 66th minute.
But Racing responded quickly, as Manuel Arana notched his first goal of the season in the 70th minute to cut the deficit in half.
Sebastian Fernandez put the result beyond any doubt, striking in the 89th minute to see Malaga jump ahead of Sevilla into fifth place in La Liga with 20 points on the season.
After losing three successive contests, Malaga has now produced two wins from its last three La Liga fixtures, edging Espanyol with a 2-1 win on Oct. 30 before playing to a scoreless draw with Real Betis in its last outing.
With the loss, Racing has its three-game unbeaten streak snapped. Los Verdiblancos, tied with Real Sociedad and Granada for last place in La Liga with just nine points, sit bottom of the table on goal differential (-10).
