Mainz signed free agent Croatian striker Ivan Klasnic to a one-year contract on Tuesday.
Klasnic, 32, last played for Bolton in England. His contract expired at the end of last season. He started his career with St. Pauli in Germany from 1997-2001, and also played for Werder Bremen from 2001-08 in the Bundesliga.
"I had a lot of requests, but the opportunity to play at Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga and has attracted me the most," Klasnic said.
Capped 41 times for Croatia, Klasnic underwent two kidney transplants in 2007 while at Bremen. He helped the German club win the league and cup double in 2004. Klasnic has also played for Nantes in France.
