Mainz, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Mainz announced on Wednesday that the club has added forward Nicolas Castillo on loan for the remainder of the season from Club Brugge with Mainz having the option to make the switch permanent.
Castillo moved to Belgium from Universidad Catolica in his native Chile in January 2014, and he has enjoyed a strong season with Brugge, tallying 11 goals in 27 appearances.
"We were looking for a central striker as an additional option for our team and are pleased that we have found this in Nicolas Castillo," said Mainz club manager Christian Heidel.
"He is a goalscorer who can provide a lot of attacking threat with his unfussy, dynamic style of play and has already proved his scoring prowess."
The 21-year-old joins a Mainz side that sits in 12th place in the Bundesliga and he could make his debut on Saturday when the team begins the second half of its league campaign at home against Paderborn.
Castillo has also earned one cap for Chile's national team when he came on as a substitute in a World Cup qualifier against Peru in March 2013.
