Binghamton University announced on Monday that head men's basketball coach Mark Macon has been relieved of his duties, effective immediately.
Macon, who signed a three-year extension last February, had just finished his third season as head coach with the school and his last one was particularly disastrous as the team went just 2-29, losing their first 26 games of the 2011-12 season
"Mark Macon led the program during an extremely difficult period," said Binghamton athletics director Patrick Elliott. "I appreciate and thank him for his efforts but after careful consideration, I have made the difficult decision to make a change in leadership. The decision comes after a thorough assessment of our current program and my expectations for the future."
During his tenure, the school posted a mark of 23-70.
The search for a new head coach will begin immediately, said Elliott.
