Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - With Maya Moore's 34 points leading the way, the Minnesota Lynx opened defense of their 2013 WNBA title with an 89-77 verdict over the Washington Mystics at Verizon Center.

Moore added nine rebounds and Seimone Augustus deposited 24 points in a game the Lynx were in front mostly throughout, though Washington took a 66-65 edge with 8 1/2 minutes remaining following a 7-1 push that Tierra Ruffin-Pratt capped with a successful jumper.

Moore converted a 3-point play on the ensuing possession, however, to ignite an 11-1 spurt that gave Minnesota a 76-67 advantage with 4:33 to go.

Damiris Dantas contributed a pair of baskets during the pivotal run and finished with a game-best 12 rebounds.

Moore poured in 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting to help stake the Lynx to a 43-39 lead at intermission, though the Mystics were down by as many as 15 in the first half before closing the gap behind a strong second quarter.

Ivory Latta had a big game for Washington in defeat, knocking down 7-of-9 attempts from 3-point range en route to 25 points. Ruffin-Pratt tallied 17 points and eight rebounds while going 7-of-11 from the field.
