Jovaughn Love scored 17 points and Marcel Mosley added 15 as Arkansas-Pine Bluff held off Cal State Bakersfield 56-49 in the Rainbow Classic Monday night.
Love, a freshman, and Mosley each scored in double figures for the third-straight game for the Golden Lions (1-2).
Javonte Maynor paced the Roadrunners (0-3) with 17 points on five 3-pointers and Kevin Mays added 15 with 11 rebounds. Bakersfield opened the Hawaii tournament with a 100-99 four-overtime loss to High Point, the program's longest game since 1989.
Trailing by five in the late going, Maynor drained a 3-pointer pulling the Roadrunners to 52-48 with 21 seconds left. He fouled Love on the ensuing possession and the frosh hit both free throws. Maynor and Brent Wrapp missed 3-point attempts in the final seconds.
After a tight first half, Pine Bluff reeled off a 17-9 run after halftime with Mosley, Tevin Hammond and Ghiavonni Robinson hitting back-to-back-to-back 3s.
