Anze Kopitar and Mike Richards scored in the third period, and the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings stayed alive by forcing overtime in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals against the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night.

The Blackhawks grabbed an early 2-0 lead before the Kings tied it in the third period. Chicago went ahead 3-2, but Los Angeles got even again on Mike Richards' goal with 9.4 seconds left.

The teams were still tied through the first overtime period.

Chicago leads the series 3-1 and is on the brink of advancing to the Stanley Cup finals against Boston. Game 6, if necessary, will be Monday in Los Angeles.

Patrick Kane had two goals for Chicago, and Duncan Keith also scored in his return from a one-game suspension for high-sticking Jeff Carter in the face.

Dwight King had a short-handed goal for Los Angeles at 9:28 of the second.
