Lorient, France (SportsNetwork.com) - Lorient bounced back from a disappointing loss get a 3-1 victory over Metz at the Stade du Moustoir on Saturday, its third Ligue 1 win in five outings.
The club had taken seven points from three games before suffering a 3-2 defeat to Bordeaux last time out, but a convincing win over struggling Metz appears to have put Lorient back on the right track.
The hosts were in front after only 13 minutes as Jordan Ayew broke the deadlock early on.
Raphael Guerreiro doubled Lorient's advantage in the 37th minute while Benjamin Jeannot struck just before halftime to extend the lead.
Yeni N'Gbakoto pulled one back for Metz in the opening minute of the second period, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation goal as Lorient killed off the match to move to 20 points on the season, one point clear of Metz.
Bastia climbed out of the Ligue 1 cellar with a 2-0 defeat of 10-man Rennes on Saturday. Fallou Diagne was sent off for Rennes in the 26th minute and the hosts took advantage, tallying goals from Ryad Boudebouz and Yannick Cahuzac to improve to 17 points.
Montpellier and Lens split the points from a thrilling 3-3 draw on Saturday. Goals from Morgan Sanson and Lucas Barrios put Montpellier in front, but visiting Lens stormed back thanks to Pierrick Valdivia and Baptiste Guillaume. Anthony Mounier handed the hosts another lead, but Yoann Touzghar struck 10 minutes from time to earn Lens a share of the spoils.
Also on Saturday, Diego bagged a brace to lead Reims to a 3-2 victory over 10- man Evian while an own goal from Azbe Jug proved to be the difference in Nantes' 2-1 victory over Bordeaux.
