Chiapas, Mexico (SportsNetwork.com) - Emanuel Lopez recorded a ninth round knockout of Carlos Padilla to secure the vacant WBA world super featherweight title.
Lopez (18-4-1) showed throughout the evening that he was the stronger fighter, connecting on multiple shots to Padilla over the course of the fight.
Padilla (15-2-1) fell to the canvas earlier in the ninth round before numerous shots moments later forced referee Luis Pabon to stop the fight.
Lopez is now on a three-fight winning streak since a a 10-round unanimous decision loss against Marco Isaias Gonzalez. Padilla, meanwhile, has dropped two of his last three fights.
