Grapevine, TX – Sabine Lisicki and Aravane Rezai won their respective semifinal matches on Friday at the inaugural $220,000 Texas Tennis Open, a final U.S. Open tuneup.
The fifth-seeded Lisicki of Germany cruised past eighth-seeded Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania 6-0, 6-1 in 53 minutes on the hardcourts at Hilton DFW Lakes Hotel.
Lisicki fired five aces past Begu and will try for her second title this season. The German won in Birmingham earlier this season, and holds a 2-2 career mark in finals.
Begu, who turned 21 on Friday, was trying to reach her third final this year.
Rezai of France outlasted German Angelique Kerber 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 in almost two hours.
Saturday will mark Rezai's first final of the season. She is 4-2 in title matches.
Kerber was trying to reach her second career final.
Lisicki and Rezai have split two previous meetings.
Saturday's titlist will collect $37,000.
